We report (1) a four\u2010facet SMD inventory (memory complaints, concerns, compensation, self\u2010efficacy) and (2) prediction of memory change and moderation by sex.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"dad212089-sec-0020\" class=\"sec\">\n<h3 id=\"dad212089-sec-0020title\">Methods<\/h3>\n<p id=\"__p2\" class=\"p p-first-last\">The longitudinal design featured 40 years (53 to 97) of non\u2010demented aging (<em>n\u00a0<\/em>=\u00a0580) from the Victoria Longitudinal Study. Statistical analyses included confirmatory factor analyses and conditional latent growth modeling.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"dad212089-sec-0030\" class=\"sec\">\n<h3 id=\"dad212089-sec-0030title\">Results<\/h3>\n<p id=\"__p3\" class=\"p p-first-last\">The four\u2010facet SMD Inventory was psychometrically confirmed. Longitudinal analyses revealed significant variability in level and change for SMD and memory. Prediction analyses showed complaints and concerns predicted lower level and steeper memory decline; however, follow\u2010up moderation analyses revealed selective predictions for females. Memory compensation predicted decline overall. Lower memory self\u2010efficacy predicted steeper decline selectively for males.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"dad212089-sec-0040\" class=\"sec sec-last\">\n<h3 id=\"dad212089-sec-0040title\">Discussion<\/h3>\n<p id=\"__p4\" class=\"p p-first-last\">Although traditional and novel SMD facets predicted memory decline, differential sex moderation was observed.
