{"id":4700,"date":"2021-01-22T21:23:23","date_gmt":"2021-01-23T02:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ccna-ccnv.ca\/ccna_publication\/a-quadratic-function-of-activation-in-individuals-at-risk-of-alzheimers-disease-2\/"},"modified":"2024-12-03T14:57:25","modified_gmt":"2024-12-03T19:57:25","slug":"a-quadratic-function-of-activation-in-individuals-at-risk-of-alzheimers-disease-2","status":"publish","type":"ccna_publication","link":"https:\/\/ccna-ccnv.ca\/fr\/ccna_publication\/a-quadratic-function-of-activation-in-individuals-at-risk-of-alzheimers-disease-2\/","title":{"rendered":"A quadratic function of activation in individuals at risk of Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 id=\"d4109096\" class=\"article-section__header section__title main abstractlang_en main\">Abstract<\/h2>\n<div class=\"article-section__content en main\">\n<section id=\"dad212139-sec-0010\" class=\"article-section__content\">\n<h3 id=\"dad212139-sec-0010-title\" class=\"article-section__sub-title section1\">Introduction<\/h3>\n<p>Brain activation is hypothesized to form an inverse U\u2010shape in prodromal Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease (AD), with hyperactivation in the early phase, followed by hypoactivation.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"dad212139-sec-0020\" class=\"article-section__content\">\n<h3 id=\"dad212139-sec-0020-title\" class=\"article-section__sub-title section1\">Methods<\/h3>\n<p>Using task\u2010related functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), we tested the inverse U\u2010shape hypothesis with polynomial regressions and between\u2010group comparisons in individuals with subjective cognitive decline plus (SCD<sup>+<\/sup>; smaller hippocampal volumes compared to a group of healthy controls without SCD and\/or apolipoprotein E [<i>APOE<\/i>] \u03b54 allele) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI).<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"dad212139-sec-0030\" class=\"article-section__content\">\n<h3 id=\"dad212139-sec-0030-title\" class=\"article-section__sub-title section1\">Results<\/h3>\n<p>A quadratic function modeled the relationship between proxies of disease severity (neurodegeneration, memory performance) and left superior parietal activation. Linear negative functions modeled the relationship between neurodegeneration and left hippocampal\/right inferior temporal activation. Group comparison indicated presence of hyperactivation in SCD<sup>+<\/sup>\u00a0and hypoactivation in MCI in the left superior parietal lobule, relative to healthy controls.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"dad212139-sec-0040\" class=\"article-section__content\">\n<h3 id=\"dad212139-sec-0040-title\" class=\"article-section__sub-title section1\">Discussion<\/h3>\n<p>These findings support the presence of an inverse U\u2010shape model of activation and suggest that hyperactivation might represent a biomarker of the early AD stages.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"author":19,"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"studies-relation":[],"class_list":["post-4700","ccna_publication","type-ccna_publication","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.8 -
