Local Events for CCNA Trainees

~ Toronto and Waterloo ~

The Training and Capacity Building Program is excited to announce that we are holding local events for CCNA trainees in Toronto and Waterloo. Events are being organized by members of the CCNA Trainee Society Executive Committee and will provide a unique opportunity for CCNA-affiliated trainees to learn and network.

Please note, these events are in English.

1. Supporting Patient Engagement in Dementia Research – Workshop & Facilitated Community Dialogue for Trainees

Date & Time: Wednesday, March 6, 2019, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Location: Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging – 250 Laurelwood Drive, Waterloo, ON

Description: This event will consist of a workshop and facilitated dialogue with community members who have lived experiences with dementia (persons with dementia & care partners).

During the morning session, trainees will receive training from the Alzheimer Society of Ontario and local dementia researchers on: (1) stigma, (2) the benefits, opportunities, and challenges of patient engagement in dementia research, (3) dementia-inclusive research practices, and (4) honouring the personhood and rights of persons with dementia in research.

Following this workshop, trainees will share a meal with community partners who have lived experience with dementia. During the afternoon session, trainees have the opportunity to participate in a facilitated dialogue about the research experience for persons with dementia and care partners. This session will be facilitated by local dementia researchers and representatives from the local and provincial Alzheimer Society.

Due to the interactive and collaborative nature of this event, space to attend is limited and registration will be done on a first-come, first-served basis.

CCNA Trainees from Southwestern Ontario (Hamilton, Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, and surrounding areas) interested in participating are invited to register by contacting the local event organizer (Lauren Bechard, lauren.bechard@uwaterloo.ca).
