Social Inclusion and Stigma

Leads: Sarah Fraser, and Katherine McGilton

Social Inclusion and Stigma is a new working group introduced for CCNA phase II. Through this program, we will work to enhance social inclusiveness and reduce stigma for older adults, including those at risk for or currently living with neurodegenerative disease. Working towards this goal will also involve the perspectives of care providers/partners on the stigma and social inclusion of older adults. Together, we will work to combat stigma and build a more inclusive society, generating new areas of inquiry on this topic.

Objectives:

  • To enhance social inclusiveness and reduce stigma for older adults with neurodegenerative decline as well as the care providers/partners;
  • Explore measures that can be used to assess the extent and influence of social inclusiveness and stigma;
  • Aim to maximize synergies with CCNA members working in the area and further this collaboration with new partners and CCNA members; and
  • Advance the science, knowledge and research methodologies in these areas of inquiry.
