Should we use Large Language Models (LLM’s) such as ChatGPT in our research?

Session time: Tuesday, March 19, 3:30-5 pm ET (in parallel to two other sessions, see program)

Location: Palais room (8th floor)

Moderators: Julie Robillard and Susanna Martin

Speakers: Howard Chertkow, AJung Moon, Dylan Guan, Catherine Kelly, Sukhinder Cheema

Description: LLM’s are a hot topic as they offer the ability to assist with activities across research processes, for example in the analysis of COMPASS-ND and CTU data, or to support qualitative analyses. However, their unrivalled potential also raises many ethical, legal, and social considerations.

    • How should the CCNA community respond? Should researchers use LLM’s or avoid them?
    • How might we balance risks and benefits?
    • Do we need guiding policies?
    • What impact might their use have on the integrity of research?
    • This 90-minute panel session will explore responses to these questions offered by panelists from across the research community.
