OVERVIEW
In 2025, CCNA launched its Subspecialty Fellowship program in neurodegeneration and dementia. This one-year fellowship aims to increase the capacity of Canadian-trained specialists and their retention in academic or community-based positions across Canada. BENEFITS
CCNA’s Subspecialty Fellowship program supports emerging leaders, while strengthening expertise in the discipline of neurodegeneration and dementia across the country.
Through this initiative, recipients gain access to:
Specialized training opportunities, enabling fellows to practice within and develop competencies that complement those of their (sub) specialty.
Structured, dedicated mentorship from experienced clinicians and researchers in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and its variants.
Opportunities to engage and collaborate with a national network of dementia clinicians and researchers, while contributing to the future of care, research, and education in Canada.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Duration: One year (12 months).
- Be physicians already trained in one of the following specialties: neurology, cognitive neurology, geriatric medicine, or geriatric psychiatry, or will have completed their specialty training by the start of the fellowship; and
- Have a mentorship plan/fellowship training program to which they are accepted, pending funding.
Preference will be given to applicants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents eligible to practice and intending to remain in Canada.
Each successful applicant must also identify a primary mentor/supervisor:
- A mentor should be experienced in AD and dementia, as well as in mentoring clinical trainees; and
- The primary mentor must agree to provide evaluations of the applicant’s progress at six-month intervals from the start of the fellowship, taking into account any leaves during the fellowship.
