Driving and Dementia Roadmap: A new resource on a World Health Organization Global Dementia Platform

The Driving and Dementia Roadmap (DDR), a free online Canadian resource developed by CCNA’s Team 16 researchers at Baycrest and Sunnybrook Health Sciences has recently been included as a dementia resource on a World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Dementia Observatory Knowledge Exchange Platform.

According to the WHO website this platform “enhances countries’ and communities’ response to dementia” and is a space to share resources “available at no-cost, to facilitate mutual learning and promote the exchange of knowledge in the area of dementia.”

For inclusion on the platform, the DDR was reviewed by academics around the world as well as a focus group of people living with dementia.

The DDR website (drivinganddementia.ca) is a first-of-its-kind, online resource recently launched across Canada, which aims to empower older adults living with dementia to make informed decisions about when to stop driving.

The resource can be used by older adults diagnosed with dementia, families, friends, carers, and healthcare professionals. It includes information about how dementia can impact driving, strategies for managing concerns regarding the loss of independence, how to plan for future transportation, and more.

The DDR is available at drivinganddementia.ca and includes resources from every Canadian province and territory.
