December 18th, 2015 marked a tremendous step forward in supporting the advancement of dementia research.
As of last Friday, an increase of more than $350 million was signed into law by the President of the United States, Barack Obama, bringing the total of Alzheimer’s research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to nearly $1 billion per year. This marks more than a doubling since the Alzheimer’s Association worked with Congress to unanimously pass the National Alzheimer’s Project Act (NAPA) five years ago this month.
“With the signature of President Obama, these funds will begin to be released immediately to fund new, groundbreaking Alzheimer’s research. This is truly historic day for the field of Alzheimer’s research.” -Maria C. Carrillo, Ph.D., Chief Science Officer
The Alzheimer’s Association, the leading advocate for federal Alzheimer’s disease research funding and caregiver support, highlighted the historic $350 million increase for Alzheimer’s disease research funding in the FY2016 budget.
