December 2nd, 2019 is the inaugural Women’s Brain Health Day, and the Women’s Brain Health Initiative (WBHI) is launching the Stand Ahead™ Challenge to “stand up against research bias and stand ahead for women’s brain health”. The challenge involves having yourself (or a designate) filmed safely doing a headstand in honour of an important woman (or numerous important women) in your life and challenging at least two others to do it as well and/or to donate to the campaign. All donations go to supporting the research and education programs of WBHI and will be matched by Brain Canada. For more information about the Stand Ahead™ Challenge and/or to make a donation, click here.
The Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging (CCNA) is proud to support this worthy campaign. Almost 70% of those with Alzheimer’s disease are women and yet until recently most research did not address this. Since its inception, CCNA has prioritized the importance of incorporating examination of sex and gender into the work it carries out through the Women, Sex, Gender and Dementia Cross-cutting Program, which has been supported by both WBHI and Brain Canada.
Keep an eye out on Twitter and Instagram for photos or videos of CCNA members supporting the cause!
