Black History Month

For Black History Month we share a CCNA Talking Brains webinar by Ngozi Iroanyah about the first study on dementia in Black Communities in Canada.

We invite you to also consult a three-part series on dementia by and for the Canadian Afro-Caribbean community, led by Ngozi Iroanyah, Director of Health Equity and Access at Alzheimer Society of Ontario:

• Part 1: Discusses the impact of dementia in the community, and covers its definition, symptoms, the importance of early diagnosis, barriers to care and preventative measures.
• Part 2: Features the experiences of two doctors from the community caring for family members with dementia, as well as the cultural stigmas and the critical need for more culturally responsive support systems.
• Part 3: Discusses resources, support systems, long-term care options, and end-of-life planning for people living dementia within the community, and highlights the critical need for more research in this demographic.
